The Common
Biomedical Treatment Facility (CBWTF) has been established to cover
around 10,000 beds.
It has been set up
on a private land over an area of about Ac.2.0.Separate rooms for
unloading and storage of incoming wastes from the waste collection and
transportation vehicle has been provided near the entry point. These
rooms are painted with red, blue and yellow so that the different
categories of wastes collected in different color bags can be unloaded
without any confusion. Besides, there is a separate room for treatment
equipment such as incineration, microwave and shredder. The treatment
equipment room has adequate space for storage of treated biomedical
wastes as well. All the storage rooms and treatment equipment room are
well ventilated and these are easy to wash. The floors and walls of the
incoming waste storage rooms are provided with glaze tiles. The layout
of the plant is presented in fig.1.
The following
treatment equipments and other facilities are available at the facility.
a)Incinerator - An incinerator of capacity 100 kg/hr exists for
incineration of anatomical wastes and other waste falling under
categories 2, 5 & 6. The said incinerator has in built control
panel display to measure the temperature of both primary and
secondary chamber including pollution control device such as wet
scrubber. The stack of height 30m from the ground level is
attached to the incinerator.
b)
Microwave: For
disinfection of other infectious wastes (Cat.3 and 7), one
microwave of capacity 60-lit/ cycle has been installed.
c) Shredder: A shredder
has been provided for shredding of treated biomedical wastes (category 4
& 7)
d) Sharp pit : There
are three numbers of sharp pits of masonry structure having concrete
base for disposal of sharp wastes after disinfection.
e) Ash / sludge
disposal pit: One rectangular
masonry pit having two compartments exists for disposal of incineration
ash and sludge from the settling tanks.
f) Washing
platform for the transportation vehicle.
g)Waste Water management
system: settling tanks have been constructed for
collection of all washings and scrubbed liquid with facility for
chemical treatment and recirculation system.
h)D.G
Set: A D.G. set of capacity 30 KVA has been installed
which will be used in case of power failure.

M/s. Sani Clean Pvt.
Limited has set up a Common Biomedical Waste Treatment and Disposal Facility at
Tangiapada, Khurda. The said facility has been set up to cater service to
different health care units operating in Cuttack , Choudwar, Khurda, Jatni, and
Bhubaneswar town. The said facility has been authorised by the Board and is in
operation since 2 nd June 2003 .
(B) HCUs in Cuttack ,
Bhubaneswar utilizing the service provided by the common facility.
